Curriculum

Ōpōtiki College offers a broad and balanced curriculum from Years 9 to 13, designed to foster confident, engaged learners who are supported to excel academically, socially, and culturally. Across all year levels, students have access to a wide range of learning areas including Mathematics, English, Science, Social Sciences, Health & Physical Education, Te Reo Māori, Art, Music, Technology, and Curriculum Enrichment programmes such as STEAM and Hauora. From Year 10 onwards, students have the opportunity to sit Common Assessment Activities (CAAs) to gain the 10 NCEA literacy and numeracy credits required for NCEA Level 1. Additionally, numeracy and literacy credits are integrated across core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Science, Te Reo Māori, Social Studies, and Art History, ensuring students can access achievement in a variety of contexts. The curriculum is designed to build foundational skills early, provide increasing choice and specialisation through the senior years, and support every learner toward meaningful pathways and success in their future learning and lives.
